I’ve uploaded to Flickr some shots of a cool machine that was presented on a local mall last week. It’s a F1 Simulator (also called virtual cockpit), entirely developed by a brazilian company called Armaroli Design.

The simulation is awesome! Although it’s a 3 headed screen, a regular PC game, and a steering wheel you can easily buy, but the real development here is the cockpit and the realistic feel of the speed (5.1 sound, wind blowing in your face, the tight cockpit, the position relative to the screen, etc). Checkout their site, and watch some videos!

They’re demonstrating this baby on a tour around Brazil, and I don’t know if they intend to sell this outside here. But from the info I could get from the guys on the demo, it’s designed to be sold to racing teams in order to help pilots practice before getting into the real tracks, and also for demonstration and entertainment on big events for anyone who wish to afford a rent. They’re not planning to sell on the open market to the gaming fans (not yet).

Oh, yeah, I want one of this at home, but unfortunately they refused to tell me the price for now.

Sorry, but I don’t know nothing about Ubuntu, but this press release caught my attention:

[...] “Edgy Eft is scheduled for release around October 2006 and may include features such as the Smart Package Manager, which claims to make it easier to install and upgrade software, and support for XGL graphics software. [...] support for true mixed 32-bit and 64-bit computing on AMD64, the interesting possibilities of the SMART package manager [...]“

Yes. Looks like Ubuntu is the distro that prove the world that Smart is a viable solution.

Kudos for SUSE developers for their great speed in answering bugzilla tickets. I’ve never seen so fast responses in any other bug tracker system around. The average response time for my open bugs or comments is 1 minute, and the average solution time is close to 1 hour. That’s great! Thank you all guys!

I finally decided to activate my Flick account, and for that I chose a picture from the three computers I’m currently working with. The word ‘currently’ here applies in the way that only the desktop is really mine, the others belong to two clients I’m currently working to, but both stay with me.

Obviously all of them run SUSE Linux.

Após um longo tempo sem publicar nada interessante, estou liberando dois tutoriais que derivaram de meus serviços de consultoria:

- Anti-Spam em SUSE 10.0
- Antii-Spam Gateway para MS Exchange com SUSE 10.0

Os dois tutoriais são bastante específicos, e aplicam-se diretamente ao SUSE 10.0, com ou sem Exchange 5.5. Ambos resultaram de uma experiência bastante positiva em um cliente meu, e que já está em produção desde janeiro de 2006, e portanto pode-se considerar 100% estável.

Infelizmente não tive tempo nem paciência de traduzir para o inglês, pois o documento foi originalmente escrito em português como parte da documentação da solução do cliente. Se alguém quiser contribuir com a tradução, aceito ajuda.

I was reflecting about “The Warlord Song” from the famous brazilian band “Legião Urbana“. It’s interesting that the music was released in 1992, but it’s message isn’t restricted to a specific period in history, and it’s not fixed to the idea that’s explicited expressed on the lyrics (about the warlord). Eu estava refletindo sobre a música “A Canção do Senhor da Guerra” do “Legião Urbana“. �? interessante que a música foi lançada em 1992, mas a mensagem em si não é restrita a um período específico na história, e não é fixa à idéia explicitamente expressada nas letras (sobre o tal senhor da guerra). Se você pensar bem, ela se aplica a empresas, organizações militares e entidades políticas. �? uma grande mensagem.

They will release totally free the latest episodes from “Lost”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Commander in Chief” and “Alias” on-line, on the next day it’s aired on the US. They’re using this strategy to reduce the P2P piracy, even though you can’t download the video, just watch the stream. Anyway, it’s great news!
