There are a lot of different stories about what motivated the creation of the Fedora Project. Well, in this video, you can find a view from who was there, and participated in the whole process. Check out Greg DeKoenigsberg’s view of the facts.

Someone sent us a request today.
I have been brutally separated from my iPhone in an unfortunate event.
Translation: I lost my phone.
[Update]: Uh! This is post 300!

Today the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) from CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) starts it’s operation. This is a huge particle accelerator (also widely known as “the largest machine built by man”) which will try to reproduce the conditions that existed only during the Big Bang, and also try to detect and prove the existence of many particles only known in theory (so far).

- Coverage from Scientific American
Some say this is the prelude to the end of the world, but that’s just human nature. Usually people are scared about things they don’t know or don’t understand. For those people, today is the first day towards the end.
For those who believe the LHC is a benefit to humanity, we can only hope that with the experiments we can finally understand black holes, worm holes, big bang, or even time travel and parallel dimensions.
Let History define who’s right and who’s wrong.

ramkumar commented on an earlier post called “RH401: Passed” that he didn’t know what RHCDS mean. To serve a wider public, I am going to post a few links of interest for those who want to understand what goes around Red Hat Certifications:
- Red Hat Training main page
- .RHCE - This is the regular certification. It means you are able to manage Red Hat systems in a general manner.
- RHCDS - This certifies that you are a little over a regular administrator, and you have datacenter skills.
- RHCSS - This certifies your skills/knowledge of fine tuning security on Red Hat systems.
- RHCA - This certifies that you have further knowledge, and is prepared for the “enterprise” systems (clusters, virtualization, etc).
Some of the courses overlap, some are specific. Read the descriptions, check the courses, and define your path.
I don’t know worldwide, but I can say that in USA and Brazil, RHCE is a pretty strong certification (better than LPI), and RHCA is rapdly becoming of higher importance.
Have fun!

Today someone asked me to help with a computer crash. I replied “try this, try that, then let me know if it works”. Fine minutes later, he replied to my e-mail with a URL:

Raleigh, N.C.-based Red Hat Inc. has touted its “green computing” image following a recent independent test that ranked Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5’s power efficiency over Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 on three different hardware platforms.
The server tests rated power consumption on IBM, Dell and HP machines in three conditions: active mode optimized for power savings, active mode optimized for performance and quiet mode.

A small newspaper in Brazil came out today with the following photo in it’s cover.
