Nesse feriado fiquei em uma situação quase desesperadora. Meu Xbox 360 pifou com as famosas “três luzes vermelhas“. Quase entrei em pânico, pois isso aconteceu na quinta-feira, feriado aqui em SP, quando não tinha como resolver. Pra piorar, entrei em contato com a Microsoft Brasil, e apesar de eles darem garantia de 3 anos sobre esse problema, a garantia só cobre aparelhos comprados no Brasil (não, o meu não é contrabando, mas eu comprei nos EUA, e entrei legalmente no Brasil).

Mercado Livre ao resgate! Pesquisei bastante, e achei um carinha que dizia resolver o problema, e melhor ainda, por um preço justo. Fechei negócio, e levei lá no dia seguinte. O cara abriu o console na minha frente, mostrou onde era o problema, e resolveu na hora. Tudo ficou pronto em 2h!

Salvei meu feriado. Não joguei muito, mas pelo menos não passei o fim de semana preocupado em perder meu console que me custou tão caro. Viva!

Last week I found myself in an almost desperate situation. My Xbox 360 busted with the famous “three red lights“. I almost panic, because it happened Thursday, when it was a holiday in Sao Paulo, when there was no possible way to find someone to fix. Worse, I called Microsoft Brasil, and even though they have an extended 3 year warranty for this problem, the warranty covers consoles purchased in Brazil only (I bought mine in USA).

Mercado Livre to the rescue! (Note: it’s an e-Bay-like site in Brazil) Searched a lot, and found someone who calimed to fix the problem, and best of all, for a fair price. Done deal, took my console there in the next morning. The guy opened it while I was watching, showed me the problem, and fixed right away. Everything was good in 2 hours!

Saved my holiday. I didn’t play much, but at least I did not spend the rest of the weekend worried about losing my console, which cost so much. Hurray!

Looks like WPA encryption has been cracked, or almost… I already changed my home network to WPA2, just in case.

After many months of a long wait, I finally got my Popcorn Hour A-110 installed! It’s an amazing little thing that streams all your multimedia files (video, photos, music, etc) stored on your computer to your TV using the network. Does everything as advertised. If you can buy one, I recommend it!

Após muitos meses de uma longa espera, eu finalmente instalei o meu Popcorn Hour A-110! É um aparelhino incrível que exibe seus arquivos multimídia (vídeos, fotos, músicas, etc) armazenados em seu computador através da rede na sua TV. Faz tudo o que promete. Se você puder comprar um, eu recomendo!

Não, não é dor de cotovelo. Se eu quisesse ter um iPhone 3G eu já teria, mas não quero.

Estou de saco cheio de tanto ouvir falar disso. É iPhone pra lá, iPhone pra cá, e ele nem é lá essas coisas. Dos fones top de linha que estão no mercado, já testei o iPhone, o n95 e o BlackBerry, e siceramente, o iPhone só é bonitinho… Só.

Enquanto telefone, o iPhone é um ótimo iPod. Pega um iPod touch que é igualzinho. Aliás, não pega não, porque o iPod tem os mesmos problemas que o iPhone (exceto o fato de não ter o telefone).

Celular de verdade é Nokia. Pra ter mobilidade decente o negócio é BlackBerry. Pra dizer que tá na moda, vai lá e compra um iPhone, mas por favor, parem de dizer que ele é a oitava maravilha do mundo moderno.

Ps.: Não sou anti-Apple, sou apenas anti-hype e anti-fuss.

After a long time with my old Athlon 3000+, I decided it was time for an upgrade. After not-so-careful choosing, here’s what I got:

• Motherboard ASUS M2N-X.
• Processor Athlon64 X2 5000+.
• Memory 2GB DDR2 800Mhz

Most of what I had before has been preserved, like hard drives, monitor, etc.

So no huge difference, except now I have dual core in the desktop (already have a dual core laptop) and I can do virtual machines at home.

Anyway, not going to bore you about how cool this machine is, how easy it was just to rebuild initrd, etc etc etc.

What matters now:

• There is a new poll in my blog. Tell me what kind of computer you have.
• The remainder parts of my old machine are for sale.
